Music is deeply ingrained in all of us. Throughout my entire life, music has
been a constant presence and a powerful source of inspiration. My passion
truly took root during high school when I joined the chorus, spending four
transformative years performing for audiences around the world. That
experience expanded my musical horizons and ignited a lifelong appreciation
for all genres. Driven by the dream of becoming a rockstar, I decided to give
performing a shot, but stage fright quickly proved to be a daunting barrier.
Realizing my true place was behind the camera, I pivoted toward production,
using music as an essential storytelling tool and creative medium to
experiment with in my visual projects.
In all of my productions, music has taken center stage to help bring the scene
to life and connect viewers. On the "Addictive Fishing" show we produced for
21 years, we created custom music for each episode. We went into the studio
each week with session musicians and created a soundtrack for each segment.
It's what made the fishing show different from all the others out there. It
brought the fish fight to life and gave each location an identity. Every piece
of music was tailored specifically to match the pacing of the action, the
intensity of the catch, and the unique atmosphere of the location. Working
alongside talented studio musicians allowed us to blend live instrumentation
with cinematic composition, ensuring that no two episodes sounded the same.
This dedicated approach to scoring built a recognizable sonic signature that
resonated deeply with our audience and set a new standard for sports
entertainment television.
When we started producing RV There Yet? I wanted to use a technique I'd been
thinking about for years: using musical lyrics to help tell the story. The
idea was simple yet powerful—stop talking and let the music tell the story,
and it worked remarkably well. We've been using a production library for 4
years that provided two versions of each song: one with full vocals and
lyrics, and an instrumental track. Having both options allowed us to
seamlessly transition between vocal and instrumental versions to shape our
segments, weaving narrative emotional beats, and dynamically driving the
visual storytelling without overwhelming the dialogue.
After 4 years of producing the show, we began running into a major creative
roadblock: we were simply running out of fresh tracks in our production
library. We started searching extensively for new music libraries that could
bring our travel stories to life, but none of them fit the bill, forcing us to
start reusing songs we had already featured. I was really not a fan of
repeating tracks, as it diminished the uniqueness of each destination. That
frustration sparked an ambitious idea—what if we began writing and producing
our own original music? What better way to connect the audience to a specific
location than by writing a custom song tailored directly to the places,
culture, and experiences we were visiting? It was a wild and untested idea,
and nobody else in the industry was doing it at the time, so I decided to take
the leap and start creatively writing lyrics inspired by our trips. The very
first two songs I wrote were crafted for our episode in Lake County, Florida.
Our featured sunset activity for that shoot was a thrilling seaplane ride over
the lakes, so that became the subject of the very first track I penned. Later
in that same episode, we embarked on a catboat adventure through the
picturesque Dora Canal. The Dora Canal was such a serene and special place
that it naturally became the next subject on my writing list.
Both songs turned out to be an immediate hit with viewers. In fact, the impact
was so immediate and overwhelming that the Lake County tourism board requested
permission to use both original songs across their social media. Seeing that
level of enthusiasm from both the destination partners and our audience proved
that this risky idea was a resounding success, and I knew right then that we
were truly onto something special.
Fast forward three months later, and our initial experiment has evolved into
a full-scale creative transformation. We have now written, composed, and
produced over 20 original tracks custom-tailored for RV There Yet? TV. Each
composition is specifically crafted to embody the unique spirit, culture,
and scenic beauty of the destinations we feature. For our St. Martin Parish
episode in Louisiana, we created three custom tracks that capture the
vibrant crawfish community,
rich Cajun heritage, and
soulful rhythm of the bayou. In Montana, we composed an
expansive, acoustic track
that reflects the majestic, wide-open mountain landscapes. For our Prince
William, Virginia episode, we produced two more original songs designed to
tell the story of the
area's natural beauty
and
entertainment scene. Beyond our new filming locations, we even revisited some of our favorite
past destinations—including cherished partners in
Pennsylvania
and
Branson—to write and record dedicated tracks that honor those memorable
experiences.
This new creative workflow has fundamentally reshaped our approach to
storytelling. Given the incredible enthusiasm from destination partners. It
is safe to say that we are officially planning to produce an entirely
original, custom-scored soundtrack for Season 6 of RV There Yet? TV.
To share this musical journey with our audience beyond the television
screen, we are uploading our growing catalog to SoundCloud. We encourage all
of our viewers and fans to head over, follow our channel, and listen along. Or you can listen here on our website in our Listening Room page. Either place will work. Our ultimate vision is to release all of our original music across public
streaming platforms so that travelers and music lovers everywhere can
connect deeply with the places, people, and adventures that inspire our
show.
