We filmed an episode of
RV There Yet? TV during their
World's Biggest Fish Fry week and let me tell you, if you haven't been, didn't
know it existed, now you do, and you don't have an excuse not to go next year.

It's a week-long celebration of the community coming together to host a
downtown street dance, boxing matches, parades, fish fries, a rodeo, a full
blown carnival, and catfish races. Yes, I said catfish races. The entire
thing is kicked off with the Hushpuppy Toss - the Hostess Princess tosses a
hushpuppy to her father and that's when the fish fry is officially started!

The doors open to the Fish Tent and people from ALL over file in, and are
served catfish, hushpuppies, cole slaw, beans, and fries. Buses of people,
tour groups from Nashville, Memphis, surrounding counties, and even out of
state come to join this colorful community.

We snuck back for a peek and to lend a hand cooking the hushpuppies. It's a
well-oiled machine back there . . . fish being breaded, cooked, and brought
out front. Hushpuppies being scooped and fried - 600 every 6 minutes in
fact. They will serve over 12,000 pounds of catfish and we heard something
in the neighborhood of over 50,000 hushpuppies by the end of the festival.
Yeesh!!
The Paris-Henry County Jaycees organize it all with the help of the entire
city, county, and other volunteers from community groups. It's a beautiful
thing to watch just how tight knit and generous neighbors, families,
businesses, and a town can be when they all come together.

Happy Hushpuppies!!
